Mine is Richard Branson. Sir Richard Branson that is. I was fortunate enough to see him speak this past year. He was humble, funny and full of life. If you follow Richard Branson at all, you know he has an immense sense of adventure and lives life to the fullest.
He started his first business when he was 16 years old. Now at age 69 he has over 400 companies under the Virgin Group umbrella. Who else would be better to take business advice from?
Here are his five guidelines for creating a successful business:
Create a useful product or service - create something of use that will benefit society as a whole.
Simplify your message - know who you are and what you stand for.
Market yourself - find your tone, know your brand, do things your way, and create waves.
Embrace social media - it’s not only more cost-efficient than advertising, but it also offers great opportunities for innovative engagement with your customers.
Keep on enjoying what you do - if you genuinely love and believe in what you do, others will take notice and share your enthusiasm.
You can’t argue with a Knight!
